Innocent Civilians Wait – Sign this Petition

Senator,

As your constituent from [State] I ask for you to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

1 million people in Gaza are now starving. Children are being killed off by Israel at a rate of 1 per 10 minutes. Newborns and young moms are dying without functional hospitals. Surgeons are operating with no anesthetics. Diseases are spreading as clean water is virtually gone in Gaza.

As relief organizations keep saying, no one has seen anything like this in our lifetimes – what Israel is doing is unprecedented in the 21st century.

When experts like Israeli Holocaust expert, Prof. Raz Segal acknowledge that his country is committing a “textbook case of genocide,” or Israeli genocide scholar, Prof. Omer Bertov states that, Israel’s “genocidal intent” to “cleanse” Gaza of its indigenous population is well-established at this point, let us be serious about not enabling such cruelty.

In this moment, you are privileged to be a Senator. That is, a lawmaker of Israel’s main weapons supplier. You, more than anyone else in this country (other than President Biden) can stop this cruelty and unprecedented suffering. Put simply, you have a lot of responsibility, Senator.

I am asking you to do two things: (1) call for an immediate ceasefire and (2) restrict further military funding of Israeli assault on civilians.

“If this relentless bombardment and siege continue, there will be no ‘day after’ for Gaza. It will be too late. Hundreds of thousands of lives hang in the balance today.” That is the recent, joint conclusion of CARE USA, Oxfam, Mercy Corps, Save our Children and other major humanitarian organizations.

Please do not delay, Senator. Please act now.

As the eight nights of Hanukkah wrapped up, thousands of Jewish-Americans concerned about Israel’s relentless massacres of civilians in Gaza marched in several eight major cities across the U.S., from Atlanta and Philadelphia to Seattle and Portland. As far as their goal, it was simple.

[Activists] blocked traffic for hours, singing, chanting, carrying giant menorahs, and holding signs reading “Jews says ceasefire now” and “Let Gaza live.” Hundreds were arrested.

Our message is clear: As long as Israel is dropping bombs on Gaza, there can be no business as usual.

In just over two months, over 19,000 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli military in Gaza. Over 7,000 of them were children.

The question remains: what will it take for the consciences of U.S. lawmakers to wake up.

Labor leaders stood outside of Congress yesterday repeating demands for an end to the war on Gaza. Representatives from the UAW, American Postal Workers Union and the United Electrical Workers stood alongside several progressive Congresspeople, including Cori Bush (D-Missouri), Rashid Tlaib (D-Michigan), and Ro Khanna (D-California) to push for H.Res. 786, a ceasefire bill in Congress.

UAW President Shawn Fain, fresh from a historic labor contract victory against the Big Three automakers, said, ““We cannot bomb our way to peace,” and that, “The only path forward is to build peace and social justice through a ceasefire.”

The massacre of civilians in Gaza has reached an unspeakable level. Indigenous women, children, and babies sheltering inside of a school were killed, execution-style, by Israeli soldiers, according to witness testimonies in the last 24 hours.

Props to the four Senators whose general commitment to human rights comes through in the form of a call for a ceasefire, as of December 14, 2023. They are:

  • Dick Durbin (D-Oregon)
  • Jeffrey Merkley (D-Oregon)
  • Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachussetts)
  • Peter Welch (D-Vermont)

Israel’s Water Crisis for Palestinians: A Grave Humanitarian Concern

The water crisis in the Palestinian territories, particularly in Gaza, is a man-made disaster caused by Israel’s discriminatory water policies and infrastructure sabotage. This acute water shortage has far-reaching consequences for Palestinian health, sanitation, and overall well-being.

Limited Access to Water: Palestinians in the West Bank receive an average of 80 liters of water per day, which falls significantly below the World Health Organization’s recommended allocation of 100 liters. The situation is even more dire in Gaza, where residents have access to a mere 2 to 3 liters of water daily.

Concerns Regarding Water Quality: In Gaza, the available water is often contaminated with sewage and saltwater, making it unsafe for drinking and posing severe health risks. The forced consumption of unsafe water has led to a rise in waterborne diseases.

Israeli Oversight of Water Resources: Israel exercises control over the main aquifers in the occupied Palestinian territories, diverting an estimated 87% of this water for its own citizens. This unequal distribution exacerbates the water scarcity faced by Palestinians.

Destruction of Palestinian Water Infrastructure: Palestinian water infrastructure, including rainwater harvesting systems and water wells, has been repeatedly targeted and destroyed by Israeli forces. These actions have further hampered Palestinians’ ability to access clean and sufficient water.

Devastating Consequences: The water crisis in Gaza has had a devastating impact on public health, sanitation, and the healthcare system. The lack of clean water has contributed to the spread of infectious diseases and placed a strain on medical resources.

Addressing the water crisis in the Palestinian territories requires a comprehensive solution that tackles the root causes of the problem. This includes ending Israel’s discriminatory water policies, rebuilding Palestinian water infrastructure, and ensuring equitable access to water resources.
